Inauguration of Water Filtration Plant in Multan City March 20, 2018

A water filtration plant was installed by the local government in Multan city in 2015. The water plant was abandoned and was not in use for the last three years. The plant stopped working due to non-availability of water as the water table went down. The District Government requested Rotary to provide support to revamp the plant so that the community can take advantage of clean drinking water again.

In view of the dire need of safe drinking water especially in the areas where possibilities of polio virus exist due to improper sanitation and non-availability of potable water, the Pakistan National Polio Plus Committee assess the need and requirement to revamp redundant plants. PAG/PP Muhammad Haneef spearheaded the project of revamping by coordinating with the District Government and Polio Plus Committee.

The plant has been repaired and is now functioning properly. The Chairman Union Council on behalf of District Government is responsible for the operation & maintenance of the plant which caters to approx. 20,000 people living in adjoining urban slums.

An inauguration ceremony of solar water filtration plant in Multan City was held on 20 March 2018. National Chair Aziz Memon and DG Faiza Qamar inaugurated the plant. The ceremony was attended by the Deputy Commissioner Multan Nadir Chatta, Haji Muhammad Qureshi MPA, Sheikh Rasheed Ex-MNA, Amir Saeed Ansari EX MNA, Rana Naeem Chairman Union Council, community elites and Rotarians. Prayers were also offered for the betterment of the communities residing in the area.

At the event, National Chair, Aziz Memon said ïts unfortunate that most of the urban slums are deprived of safe drinking water which is a fundamental requirement. This is the reason that hundreds of children are suffering in water-borne diseases. We have to reduce child mortality as children are our future. He added Rotary has always endeavored for a healthy environment.

Chairman Union Council Rana Naeem gave a brief on the area and said more than 20,000 people will get drinking water. He assured proper maintenance of the plant for sustainable use of resources. He thanked Rotary for its support to re functionalized the plant.

The event ended with the vote of thanks from National Chair Aziz Memon.
