Inauguration of Solar Water Filtration Plant at Muzaffargarh-Punjab on 20th March, 2018

In view of the dire need of safe drinking water especially in the areas where possibilities of polio virus exist due to improper sanitation and non-availability of potable water, it was suggested to install Solar Water Filtration plants to increase access to safe drinking water, decrease water borne diseases and increase creditability of polio partners in high refusal areas. Rotary in collaboration with CocaCola Pakistan and UNDP initiated a proposal for installation of Solar Water Filtration Plants in five areas of Muzaffargarh, Faisalabad, Okara and two in Karachi.

An inauguration ceremony of Solar Water Filtration Plant was held on 20th March, 2018 at Chaudary Brother Mills, Baga Sheer Muzaffargarh. The Plant was jointly inaugurated by National Chair Aziz Memon and DG Faiza Qamar. The ceremony was attended by PDG Mughees Ahmed Shaikh, PAG/PP Muhammad Haneef and Rotarians of Multan city and community stakeholders

A Symbolic Key was presented to the Chaudary Zulfiqar, responsible for operationalization of the plant. Prayers were also offered for the betterment of the communities residing in the area.

The Solar plant was also inspected. Tariq Jamsheed, Project Engineer explained operational procedure and informed that this plant is more sophisticated because latest technology is used this time which make the plant to work automatically, secondly two more filters are used to make water more clean. He added that three persons from the mill have been trained in regular maintenance of the plant.

National Chair Aziz Memon and DG Faiza Qamar started the solar plant by pushing the button plant and open the water taps to functionalize the system. They also drink a glass of filtered water to ensure its quality.

Chaudary Zulfiqar CEO Chaudry Mills ensured that they will maintain the plant for un interrupted supply of clean drinking water to communities living around the plant.

At the event, National Chair, Aziz Memon, said “It gives me great pleasure to inaugurate the first solar water filtration plant of Zingagi phase 2 project in Muzaffargarh, in partnership with Coca-Cola Pakistan and its partner UNDP.. The project ‘Zindagi’ is envisioned to uplift the quality of life for the targeted communities of Pakistan, instilling a sense of hope for a healthier future. This is first of the five solar water filtration plants under this partnership, and we are determined for the progressive deliverables of this project.”

The participants were also briefed about the sustainability of the project. It was told by Asher Ali, Project Manager PNPPC that a number of community meetings were carried out before launching the project for optimal utilization of filtered water and maintenance of the plant.

National Chair Aziz Memon paid special thanks to PDG Mughees Ahmed for his participation in the occasion. He also thanked to all guests at the end.

After the inauguration ceremony National Chair Aziz Memon and DG Faiza Qamar planted a tree sapling in the farm yard.
